The Name SewWhatStuff is actually short for SewWhat Custom Monogrammed and Embroidered Stuff, named after the retail store that started it all. The original store, just 1000 square feet in a strip mall in the beautiful Grassland community of Franklin, Tennessee, had very little signage space allotted for the name of the store. Owners Mike and Jeanie Rowland, decided to use every square inch available and keep commuters on Route 431 in stitches by simply naming it? SewWhat? And because customers were always surprised and delighted at all the stuff SewWhat had available to monogram, it was a natural next step to spin off with www.sewwhatstuff.com and bring the store to you.

The Story
What We Do "What Jeanie and I learned," notes Mike Rowland, co-owner of SewWhat, "about the hat that I gave my step-son, was that an ordinary present became extraordinary, and extraordinarily personal. Gift giving jumped to a whole new level." At SewWhatStuff, we aim to duplicate the thrill of giving and receiving gifts that are that personal. “It all began with a hat,” chuckles Mike Rowland. “Back in my former life in telecommunications, I attended a conference in Las Vegas. At the conference center there was a kiosk with monogrammable hats for sale. Even though I thought it was outrageously expensive, I decided to get a ballcap for my step-son who was on a soccer team called Electric Green Lightning. I chose a navy hat and electric green thread. I selected a font that made the word lightning look like lightning. It looked really cool. My step-son, Ross, said it was the best present ever. He wore it everywhere. People kept saying, ‘I love that hat! Where did you get it?’ It was during this time that Jeanie and I were entertaining new opportunities, and everything just kept pointing to that hat!”
